RECORDS FOR CRISTIANO RONALDO

A day of records for Cristiano Ronaldo

After an unsuccessful opening match against DR Congo (1-1), Cristiano Ronaldo performed brilliantly yesterday against Uzbekistan (5-0) and delighted with a scattering of records, just as Messi did before him.

*Cristiano Ronaldo has scored vs Uzbekistan his first goals in World Cup since a penalty he converted in the Portugal’s opening game in the 2022 edition against Ghana (3-2).
CR7 broke thus his goalless run in his last 10 Portugal games at major tournaments (4 in World Cup 2022, 5 in Euro 2024, 1 in World Cup 2026).
His scoring drought in World Cups 2022-26 (5 matches) was his joint-worst in the competition (he also had a 5-match spell without scoring between 2006 and 2010).

*Cristiano Ronaldo’s five shots on target vs Uzbeistan is the joint-most by a player at the 2026 World Cup so far, alongside Enner Valencia (vs Curaçao) and Jonathan David (vs Qatar).

*In his 6th World Cup edition, CR7 has finally beaten Portugal’ record for most goals in the competition, that stood 60 years, since Eusebio scored 9 goals in 1966, his only edition. Cristiano has now 10.
Next Portugal’s scorer Pauleta has 4 goals.

*Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments: a record that no one seems likely to ever break.

*Cristiano Ronaldo became the second oldest player to score in World Cup history, at 41 years 138 days.
He concedes only to Roger Milla, who scored in 1994 for Cameroon at 42 years 39 years.

*He equaled Messi’s record for the longest gap between his first and last World Cup goals. Both scored with a gap of 20 years 6 days.

*CR7 became one of just 3 players who hold the unique distinction of being both the youngest and oldest scorer for their country at World Cup, along with Michael Laudrup (Denmark) and Lionel Messi (Argentina).
He scored his first goal in the competition for Portugal at 21 years 132 days (in 2006).

*Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace that becomes the oldest in the history of the World Cup (see the table below).

*CR7 remains the players with the most goals (10) in the history of the World Cup without ever having scored in a knockout round, ahead of:
Lajos Tichy (Hungary, 7)
Oleg Salenko (Russia, 6)
Enner Valencia (Ecuador, 6)

*Cristiano Ronaldo made his 24th World Cup appearance. Only Lionel Messi (28) and Lothar Matthäus (25) have made more (Miroslav Klose also 24).
