*The 3rd place game France vs England (4-6) became the highest-scoring game at this World Cup, surpassing Germany vs Curaçao (7-1) at the group stage.
*It is the highest-scoring World Cup match since 15 June 1982 (Hungary vs El Salvador 10-1).
*For the first time ever, a World Cup match ended with the score 6-4.
*It is the 6th World Cup game in history with double-digit number of goals (they are listed in the table), and the very first such game that came in July.
*France’s four World Cup third-place play-offs generated as many as 30 goals (16 for, 14 against), including:
6-3 vs Germany in 1958
2-3 vs Poland in 1982
4-2 vs Belgium in 1986
*It was the first World Cup match to see both teams score 4+ goals, since a 4-4 draw between the Soviet Union and Colombia in the 1962 group stage.
