Dick Advocaat, new oldest coach in World Cup history
Prior to the 2026 edition, only four coaches over the age of 70 had ever worked at the World Cup, with the oldest among them—Otto Rehhagel—not even having reached the age of 72.
The most recent tournament saw that number of veteran coaches jump to nine, with four managers leading their teams at the age of 73 or older.
78-year-old Dick Advocaat, in charge of Curaçao, became the oldest coach in World Cup history, extending the record by nearly seven years.
