Kane set a World Cup penalty record
With converted penalty for England vs Croatia (4-2), Harry Kane became the first player to score 5 penalty goals in World Cup history.
This penalty was Harry Kane’s 6th at World Cups (not counting shootouts). He equals Lionel Messi as the two players who have taken the most spot kicks in the history of the tournament.
It was 8th penalty retaken in World Cup history and the 3rd after a missed first attempt.

He became the 2nd player scoring for England at three World Cups (2018, 2022, 2026), after David Beckham (1998, 2002, 2006).
He became joint-top England scorer at World Cups, alongside Gary Lineker (10 goals both).
He has scored 69 goals for club and country this season, a new record for an English player in a single campaign (beating Dixie Dean who scored 67 goals in 1927-28).
