Deschamps ties World Cup record for coaches
Didier Deschamps leads the French national team as a coach at the 4th World Cup (starting in 2014).
This ties the competition’s record. Before Deschamps, five coaches had worked with the same team for four editions. In all cases, the team in consideration was of the coach’s nationality.
Deschamps became also the 7th coach in World Cup history to reach 20 games. The record holder is Helmut Schön (25). It is not difficult to calculate that this record will be broken if France qualifies for the semi-finals.
Even closer Deschamps is now to the record for most winning games in World Cup. This record is also currently held by Schön (16). After the victory over Senegal (3-1), Deschamps’ tally increased to 15.
